Behind the Mona Lisa's Smile

Saw the re-run on WE channel last night/early this morning. It made me think about how we make the right decisions for ourselves. I'm not just talking about big, life-changing decisions; this also concerns the little ones that we make every day. Should I become a doctor? Or should I be a secretary? Should I eat hamburger, fries and shake, or should I stick to salads to lose weight? What would people think of me? What is better for me in the long run? What is everybody else doing? What do I want?

Trying to make the right decision is such a headache. Who says we need to make the right one? Just make one, right? But I hate being wrong or looking stupid or having people pity me. Me and my stupid pride. Sometimes, it'd be easier to make decisions based on what I want. But I know from experience that what I want at that moment doesn't mean I'll still want it in the next moment. What makes it harder is that some moments are instantaneous and some last years. I want permanence; yet, at times, I crave to have the opposite.

Am I changing, have I been changing? Or have I been standing still in one place for a long, long time?

How much to sacrifice and how much to keep? Give and take, teach and learn, catabolism and anabolism. C'est la vie.

Let's see where life takes me.

I have this memory of my grandmother trying to read my palm but it confused her so. She didn't know what to make of it.

I just really, really, really don't want to end up as a bum on the street or living in a trailer park.

Project Runway, Season 3

Episode 1: Apartment Raid
Not surprised Stacy was voted to leave. She didn't know how to use the sewing machine and had problems . I loved Michael's white fluttery dress made from coffee filters.

Episode 2: Fit for a Queen
Challenge: Working in grps of 2. Malan got kicked out. For what reason, I don't remember.

Episode 3: Designer's Best Friend
Bradley's in trouble in this episode but he manages to skim into the next challenge by the hair of his chinny chin chin. Unfortunately, I don't understand why the judges thought Katherine should go. Her design was a bit on the simpler side but it was still adorable. I'm so surprised Angela & Vincent haven't been let go yet, especially Angela. So, I guess the lesson to be learned so far is that if your design is uninspiring and poorly constructed, it's a definite disqualifier; more than leaving the hems undone. I really like Alison Kelly, the dresses she designs and what she wears. It's so stylish. I also like the designs done by Uli, Laura, Michael, and Keith. The rest are ok. But I don't like Angela's stuff. Alison's design was very mod. The expression on Alison's face was very memorable when she heard that Uli was the winner for this challenge; it was very "What?! How could she have won? Mine was better vs hers" look. Uli's design (cheetah pattern lining another brown patterned fabric) was definitely more everyday wearable than Alison's (white jacket & dress w/ black tights & heels). Oh yeah, Vera Wang & Ivanka Trump were 2 of the 4 judges.

Episode 4: Designing a 3-pc outfit for INC
Challenge: working in grps of 3. What a surprise, Angela was chosen as 1 of the 4 team leaders. Last time she worked under Vincent and they came to heads; in the end, Angela didn't work on the dress at all since Vincent wouldn't let her touch it. Now, people are dreading that she would pick them to be on her team. The other team leaders are Keith (Alison & Jeffrey), Robert (Vincent & Kayne), and Bonnie (Uli & Bradley). Angela's teammates were Michael & Laura. Woo, now it looks like somebody's going to get kicked off the show Apparently, Keith has patternbooks & how-to books in his room & the contest rules stated that it is an immediate disqualification to have "helpers" like this. I wonder what's going to happen to Alison & Jeffrey if Keith gets kicked off.

LOL!

Wicked-licious

I was so deliriously happy yesterday. Finally got to see Wicked live at the San Diego Civic Theatre. It was great, wonderful, spectacular, etc!!! BUT. I've listened to the soundtrack so many times and it was the original cast who sang the soundtrack. So I was kind of disappointed when the singing was not as rich & powerful. Both Glinda's and Elphaba's singing were on the nasal side. And at times when I was expecting them to be belting out their parts, their voices seem to lose power and I could barely hear them. Maybe I was sitting too far back and to the side (M56). But there were a few times in the performance when I felt I was left out in the cold. And Fiyero's dancing in "Dancing Through Life" seemed stiff, not carefree.

But, on the plus side, seeing the actors play out the story really helps fill in the blanks in the soundtrack which consists of music only & not dialogue. And the guy playing the Wizard sang & acted pretty decent. Overall, the acting was good, especially Glinda who was hilariously funny.

One thing that stood out for me in this performance was when Glinda sang "I'm Not That Girl" and she growls on that last low note. This little twist isn't in the soundtrack. That growly low note so represents the mood she's in after Fiyero leaves with Elphaba, and right before she betrays Elphaba to the Wizard & Madame Morrible.

Oh, and I shouldn't forget the costumes. My god, I wanted to take photos so badly, especially the outfits for the ball scene and the trip to the Emerald City.

I decided to check out if I was the only one who felt this way about the performance so I found Anne Marie Welsh's review on SignOnSanDiego. She pretty much said what I felt about the performance too. This is definitely a gotta-see show. In February 2007, there's going to be another Wicked production in Los Angeles but with a different cast, I think. Or, go to New York to see it.

::Sigh. I really wished I found out about this musical when it first came out. Judging from the soundtrack, the original cast would've been a great act to see and hear.

P.S. The guy who plays Fiyero (Sebastian Arcello) is cute! =P
